What is Hempitecture?

Hempitecture is a US manufacturer that utilizes industrial hemp as a primary building material. Hemp, a versatile and fast-growing plant, is known for its numerous environmental benefits. From its minimal environmental footprint to its ability to sequester carbon dioxide, hemp has become a key player in the movement toward sustainable building practices.

Key Advantages of Hemp

Environmental Sustainability

This innovative blend not only provides excellent insulation but also has a significantly lower environmental impact compared to traditional building materials.

Carbon Sequestration

Hemp absorbs large amounts of carbon dioxide during its growth, making it an effective tool in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. When used in construction, hemp continues to sequester carbon, contributing to a net-positive environmental impact.

Energy Efficiency

Hemp offers excellent thermal performance, providing natural insulation that regulates indoor temperatures. This, in turn, reduces the reliance on artificial heating and cooling systems, leading to energy savings and increased overall efficiency.

Durability and Versatility

Hemp-based materials exhibit high durability and versatility, allowing for a wide range of architectural applications. From residential homes to commercial buildings, hemp can be adapted to various construction needs.

Regenerative Agriculture

Hemp cultivation promotes regenerative agricultural practices. The plant requires minimal pesticides and herbicides, and its growth can improve soil health. This aligns with the principles of sustainable farming, fostering a holistic approach to environmental stewardship.

What is Hempwool?

Hempwool insulation for homes and commercial buildings - eco friendly bat insulation

Hempwool is a Natural Fiber insulation used primarily for exterior walls, including floors, ceilings, and walls. This is a new technology that is an alternative to traditional bat insulation made of mineral wool and fiberglass.

Hempwool is a pre-formed and flexible plant based insulation designed to be inserted by friction fit between wooden or steel frames. It is offered in panel thickness of: 2’’ (R-7), 3,5’’ (R-13), 5,5’’ (R-20), 7,5’’ (R-28).

HempWool is ideal in multiple locations throughout a build. It is also an ideal insulation for vans, RV's, and modular homes.

Performance Of Hempwool

  • Excellent thermal resistance value (R-value) of 3.7 per inch
  • Thermal efficiency, air quality and acoustic comfort
  • Hygrothermal behavior: a competitive advantage in bio-based materials thanks to its ability to retain and release moisture without loss of efficiency. Inorganic fibers, such as glass or mineral fibers, lose performance with moisture passing through the insulation.
  • Limits condensation. Less humidity = less daily heating
  • More efficient phase shift regulation: the greater the heat retention of the insulation is, the longer the phase shift time will be, and the longer the room will be kept cool. HempWool Phase Shift = 10 hours for 7.5” of insulation.
  • Humidity management; hemp fibers have a high resistance and a favorable interaction with humidity
  • Dimensional Stability: HempWool has a high Mechanical strength which means no saggings or settling during or after installation
  • Treated with biobased, nontoxic fire retardants and biocides that increase fire and pest resistance

NO VOC's. NO TOXINS

Your healthy home starts right here with HempWool®. Insulation is one of the last things on your mind when building your home, and this leads to unhealthy, toxic materials being snuck into your walls. Be proactive and don't settle for the competitors, get the healthiest insulation money can buy.

SAFE TO TOUCH

If you wouldn't touch a product with your hands, why would you cover all of your home with it? HempWool is 90% hemp fiber and 10% binder. Due to its simple composition and non-toxic additives, it is safe to touch and handle without gloves, while giving you peace of mind.

BETTER PERFORMANCE

The pressure fit system that keeps HempWool in place with no slumping or sagging means better overall performance. HempWool will help reduce your heating and cooling costs: the high thermal inertia of HempWool makes it a phase-shift resistant material, keeping the home comfortable all year round.

What is Hempcrete?

Hempcrete, as a biobased, thermally insulating wall system. It produces and displaces multiple materials in one. The use of hempcrete eliminates the need for drywall, it serves as the thermal insulation, and eliminates all thermal bridging in the envelope. This is because cast in place hempcrete encapsulates structural members. This encapsulation also protects wood based structural framing materials.

Beyond producing multiple materials in one, additional benefits include being better protected against common pests & rodents, preserving the efficiency of the thermal envelope & structural integrity.

Hempcrete is a nuanced building material system that requires intensive preparation and planning to execute. This is best undertaken with coordination between architects, structural engineers, as well as the contractors completing the work. We recommend hempcrete projects be undertaken by professionals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do acoustic panels really work?
Yes, acoustic panels absolutely work when used correctly. Acoustic panels are designed to absorb sound waves, which helps reduce echo, reverb, and unwanted reflections in a room. This creates a cleaner, more controlled sound environment.

Whether you’re treating a home studio, podcast room, home theater, or office space, acoustic panels can make a noticeable difference in speech clarity, mix accuracy, and overall listening quality.
How do I know which panels are right for my room?
Every space is unique. You can contact us for a free room analysis, or check out our guides under the “Learn” section.

Absorption panels help reduce echo and reverb. We offer foam panels and fabric covered panels.

Diffusers scatter sound for a more balanced feel.

Bass traps help control low frequencies that tend to build up in corners.

If you’re trying to block sound from entering or leaving a room, you’ll need soundproofing materials, which are different from acoustic treatments.
Can I order samples?
Yes, we offer acoustic foam samples and well as fabric color swatches. If you are looking for something else please Contact Us.

What’s the difference between soundproofing and acoustic treatment?
Soundproofing blocks sound from entering or leaving a room. Acoustic treatment improves sound inside the room by reducing echo and reverb.
Can acoustic panels improve speech clarity?
Yes! Acoustic panels are commonly used in offices, conference rooms, and classrooms to reduce echo and improve speech intelligibility. By absorbing excess sound and reverb, panels make it easier to hear and understand spoken words—even at lower volumes.

Want help improving clarity in your space? Contact us here.
Do acoustic panels block outside noise?
Standard acoustic panels don’t block sound—they absorb it. Acoustic panels reduce echo and reverb inside a room but won’t stop external noise from entering or leaving.

If you’re looking for soundproofing, you’ll need materials designed to block sound transmission like mass loaded vinyl, or decoupled wall systems. We offer select products for this—Contact Us to learn more.

Learn the difference between soundproofing and sound absorption here.
Where should I place acoustic panels?
The best placement depends on your room and goals. For general echo reduction, aim to cover 20–30% of your wall space. For recording studios, home theaters, or listening rooms, focus on:

• Front wall behind speakers
• Back wall behind the listening position
• Side wall reflection points
• Ceiling above your desk or seating area
• Diffusers at key reflection points for natural sound

Need help with placement? Contact us for a free custom recommendation.
Do these panels work for podcasting, streaming, or music production?
Absolutely. We serve customers across all industries — from home offices to professional studios.
What fabric is best for wrapping acoustic panels?
To get the best sound performance, use acoustically transparent fabric—material that lets sound pass through easily. A simple test: try breathing through the fabric. If air flows freely, it’s likely a good choice. Avoid dense materials like heavy denim or canvas, as they can block sound instead of letting it be absorbed.
